Move
Movement, including practices like shaking and dancing, is emphasized in trauma-informed healing sessions because it provides a vital way for individuals to reconnect with their bodies and release stored tension, stress, and trauma. Trauma often gets trapped in the body, and without the opportunity to move or express it physically, these emotional blockages can persist. Shaking, for example, activates the body's natural release mechanisms, helping to release pent-up energy and emotions that have been stored in the nervous system. Dancing allows for self-expression and creativity, giving individuals the chance to connect with joy, spontaneity, and the power of their own movement, which can be incredibly liberating and healing.
It’s important to remember that there’s no right or wrong way to move—this practice is about honoring what feels good for your body and allowing it the freedom to release what it’s been holding onto. Don’t worry about how you look or whether you’re doing it “correctly.” The benefits of movement come from the release and connection to your body, not from perfection. Whether you’re gently swaying, shaking, or dancing freely, you are helping to reset your nervous system, reduce anxiety, and bring more balance into your life. This practice encourages vulnerability and self-compassion, so let go of self-consciousness and allow yourself the freedom to move as you need—it’s a powerful part of your healing journey.
